چکیده

Prosocial behavior is important for the functioning of society. This study investigates the extent to which environment shared by family members, nonshared environment, and genetics account for children's prosocial behavior. The prosocial behavior of twins (9,424 pairs) was rated by their parents at the ages of 2, 3, 4, and 7 and by their teachers at age 7. For parent ratings, shared environmental effects decreased from .47 on average at age 2 to .03 at age 7, and genetic effects increased from .32 on average to .61. The finding of weak shared environmental effects and large heritability at age 7 was largely confirmed through the use of teacher ratings. Using longitudinal genetic analyses, the authors conclude that genetic effects account for both change and continuity in prosocial behavior and nonshared environment contributes mainly to change.

Causes of stability of aggression from early childhood to adolescence: a longitudinal genetic analysis in Dutch twins.

This study investigated the contribution of genetic and environmental influences on the stability of aggressive behavior from early childhood to adolescence. Two developmental models, the simplex model and the common factor model, were tested to study the underlying processes of stability and change. Measures of aggressive behavior (AGG) were obtained from maternal CBCL data as part of a large ...

Heritable influences on behavioural problems from early childhood to mid-adolescence: evidence for genetic stability and innovation

BACKGROUND Although behavioural problems (e.g., anxiety, conduct, hyperactivity, peer problems) are known to be heritable both in early childhood and in adolescence, limited work has examined prediction across these ages, and none using a genetically informative sample. METHOD We examined, first, whether parental ratings of behavioural problems (indexed by the Strengths and Difficulties quest...

Genetic and environmental stability differs in reactive and proactive aggression.

The aim of this study was to examine stability and change in genetic and environmental influences on reactive (impulsive and affective) and proactive (planned and instrumental) aggression from childhood to early adolescence. The sample was drawn from an ongoing longitudinal twin study of risk factors for antisocial behavior at the University of Southern California (USC). The twins were measured...

Genetic and environmental contributions to stability and change of sleep problems in toddlerhood.

OBJECTIVE To examine genetic and environmental contributions to stability and change in sleep problems (SP) in early childhood. METHODS The sample comprised over 300 twin pairs assessed at ages 2 and 3 years. Parents rated SP on the Sleep Problems subscale of the Child Behavior Checklist for ages 1.5-5 years. RESULTS Longitudinal quantitative genetic analyses indicated that SP were genetica...

Sex differences in the genetic and environmental influences on childhood conduct disorder and adult antisocial behavior.

Sex differences in the genetic and environmental influences on childhood conduct disorder and adult antisocial behavior were examined in a large community sample of 6,383 adult male, female, and opposite-sex twins. Retrospective reports of childhood conduct disorder (prior to 18 years of age) were obtained when participants were approximately 30 years old, and lifetime reports of adult antisoci...
